Oswald Fred Doyle appeared in Moree Local Court facing one count of intimidation and three counts of possessing a prescribed but restricted substance.
The 59-year-old was arrested in his car on the Newell Highway south of Narrabri on February 17.
Police will allege he approached a 12-year-old boy who was on the side of the Newell Highway waiting for a school bus earlier that morning.
Doyle allegedly asked the boy to get into his car but when the 12-year-old refused, police allege Doyle walked towards the boy who picked up a stick to protect himself.
The young boy raised the alarm with his bus driver when he boarded the bus shortly after the incident.
The driver was able to follow the car and obtained a description before calling police.
Doyle did not enter any pleas during the brief court appearance and did not make an application for bail.
Mr Doyle will remain in custody with the case adjourned to March 24.
