Challenge Community Services educator Susan Gallagher said the excitement of the participants was almost palpable as they counted down to the big day.
She said they had decided to enter a float because country music was a real passion for a number of the clients, who loved the festival and who had asked about participating in the parade.
About 100 floats are preparing to make their way down Peel St, significantly up on last year’s numbers.
“Songs of Slim” is this year’s theme and the Challenge entrants have been working feverishly since late last year translating the country legend’s many song titles into works of art to adorn the float.
Festival favourites Murphy’s Pigs will also be climbing aboard and playing their way way through the CBD.
Ms Gallagher said the outside support for the Challenge entry had been “magnificent”.
“I’ve never been prouder to be part of the Tamworth community,” she said.
Parry Logistics donated a truck and driver for the event and Tamworth Nursery donated the plants for additional decoration.
The cavalcade starts at 9am from the block between Hill and Roderick streets, finishing at O’Connell St.
Member for New England Barnaby Joyce, Tamworth councillor Tim Coates and Leader advertising manager Kylie Ticehurst will be judging the Cavalcade of Stars, looking at design, construction, entertainment value and the interpretation of the theme. Winners will be announced in the categories of Best Commercial, Best Non-Commerical/Community and Best Non-Vehicle.
