WILLOW Tree Bowling Club president Erle Stockdale reckoned it was “one helluva game” when the North Tamworth quartet of Richard Russell, Chris Cameron, Peter Kachel and Luke Russell took on the “new” South Tamworth four of Paul Whitton, Dylan Eather, Scott Thorning and Nathan Wise in the CNDBA State Fours Final at Willow Tree on Sunday afternoon.

The North four led 20-19 going into the final end of the see-sawing final.
Then Wise levelled it all up to send it into extra ends for them to win 23-20 and complete the first major event of the new CNDBA bowling year.
Tamworth City’s Bob Key, who was kind enough to take some pix of the winning and losing finalists, also backed up Stockdale’s comments.
“It was a great game 20-all at the finish and needing an extra end.
“And that end swung around a number of times.”
Stockdale thought it a fitting end to a good weekend.
“Neither side deserved to lose,” he said.
“Both played some fantastic bowls.”
16 teams started the State Fours at both Willow Tree and Quirindi clubs with the final at Willow Tree.
The victory has now earned Wise and his team, who have just transferred from Gunnedah to South, a crack at the Zone title in Inverell on August 6/7.
This weekend the CNDBA’s State Triples will be played at Werris Creek.
It too is a CNDBA Bowler of the Year event.
