The former Tamworth Christmas Cup winner, to name but one success, has become a successful breeding bitch in her retirement from the track and her progeny was at it again at Tamworth on Saturday.
The Lanesburys both enjoyed early success when June’s charge Merindah Curlew came from dead last to win the Tamworth Scap Metals 5th Grade (340m) ahead of Grand Return (Robert Barden) and complete the double.
“She missed the kick completely,” June Lanesbury said.
“But she’s not really a 300 bitch.
“She’ll go 500.
“She’s had a foot problem too but we’re plugging along with her.”
The black bitch is one of five in Gracey Grace’s second litter.
So far they are living up to their pedigree.
“All of the litter have won so we’re happy with that,” June Lanesbury said.
“All of the first litter won and now all of this litter has won.”
Some of the previous litter were prolific winners locally.
If this crop of greyhounds can achieve the same success, the Lanesburys will be picking up plenty of winner’s cheques in the coming months.
Their other winner was Dam Girl Curlew, a bitch the couple bought.
It has had a lot of success in Tamworth and won again on Saturday in the New England Mututal 3/4th Grade (340m).
Steve Lanesbury looks after her and was pleased to maintain the good form.
“She got out and had a tussle with the eight till the corner,” Lanesbury said.
“She came through when she got clear.
“That’s her best time at the track.
“She likes it here.
“She’s had 10 starts for six wins, a second and a third.”
Dam Girl Curlew ended up winning by five and a half lengths from Fairway Mick (Rosalie McIvor) in 19.97 seconds.
The next step for those two greyhounds and the rest of the Gracey Grace progeny includes more local racing at Coonabarabran and Gunnedah, but some bigger races both locally and at the TAB tracks could be in the offing later.
“I’d like to bring Dam Girl Curlew back here for the Christmas Cup,” Steve Lanesbury said.
“The mother of the other ones (Gracey Grace) won that.”
Later in the day Katt Curlew, from the first Gracey Grace litter, ran second, as did Merindah Curlew’s littermate Fong Doo Curlew.
