In all 95 hectares, at the south end of Breeza Village between Railline and Mooki River Bridge, has been burnt out.
If coping with the fire on either side of the highway was not enough, firies had to deal with 41 degrees temperatures as they battled to get the fire under control.
Crews were expected to work through the night to create containment lines using machinery and backburning.
More than 30 NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers and Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters worked on the blaze which, at one stage, threatened three properties.
