Hunt powered up the daunting Mt Cotton track in his Torana in 43.18secs, smashing the track record along the way.
It was also the first time this year he had been able to beat young Tamworth star Adam Barnes and his red turbo-charged Gemini.
Mt Cotton didn't suit Barnes, who leads the NSW Hillclimb Championship, and his Gemini finished with a 44.96secs best.
It was just enough for him to pip uncle and coach Alan Barnes (Celica V8), who had a 45secs dead best.
All three Tamworth drivers are back in action this weekend when they contest the NSW Hillclimb Championships at Grafton.
They will be joined in Grafton by leading local contenders Neil Farr (Bowin Leyland V8), Ray and Joyce Seymour (Cortina GT) and Matt Halpin, who will be driving Gundy Hunt's XU1 Torana replica.
Meanwhile, Niangala motor bike star Casey Stoner was disappointed with his fourth in the 250cc section of the Italian Grand Prix.
"Honestly, I was expecting something more from the race considering the good job we made during the practice sessions," Stoner said.
"The bike wasn't 100 per cent today."
He suffered some problems in the corners and while he did lead the bike moved around too much for him to take any risks.
He finished fourth to Daniel Pedrosa and remains in third place on 76 points, 22 points adrift of Pedrosa.
