Hazlewood threw 49.04m to win the under 14 javelin event at Sydney's Homebush Athletics Centre after taking the State title earlier in the year.
The Oxley High School Year 8 student set a new State record when he threw a personal best 51m to win the NSW title in his first year of javelin after representing the State at the nationals in discus and shot put when he was 10 and 11.
Bower finished third in the u14 javelin with a throw of 47.22m, less than 2m shy of Hazlewood's winning mark.
The pair went head to head in all three throwing events with both involved in the shot put and discus as well as the javelin.
"In my first event, the discus, I didn't do very well," Bower said.
"I fouled three times and came last."
But things got better from there for the Farrer Year Eight student, who added a silver in the shot put to his javelin bronze with his best ever throw.
"In the shot put I was coming first after the first two rounds," he said.
"But then this guy from Queensland (Lincoln Cory) threw the same distance as me, 17.31m, which was a 2m personal best.
"He won, because he threw a bit further than me."
Hazlewood finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 15.87m and seventh in the
discus.
"It was all pretty close," Hazlewood said.
Bower will join Hazlewood at Oxley High next year and both will be looking to return to the nationals to add to their medal tally.
Hazlewood is also a member of the Central North Bradman Cup cricket side which meets Far North Coast in round one of the competition in Casino on Sunday.
He said he expects to open the bowling attack alongside his older brother Aaron.
