Oxley police dished out 61 penalty infringement notices (PINs) across the district in the past few days, and Superintendent Kylie Endemi said 40 of those were in Tamworth alone.

"It is clear to us that we still have a small amount of people that continue to breach the public health orders, they well and truly know what the rules are now," she said.

She said the PINs were predominantly handed to people leaving home without a reasonable excuse, as well as travelling in a car with people from a different household without masks on.

"In a lot of cases it's people who know that they shouldn't be doing that," Superintendent Endemi said.

"A reminder that if you see anyone, know anyone, breaching the public health orders, for the sake of everyone's safety, please contact Crime Stoppers or your local police."

Police will "absolutely" investigate any reports received, she said.

Spuerintendent Endemi said police were keeping a close eye on people trying to slip into the COVID-free areas of Tamworth and surrounds, and reminded the public to report anyone they believed may have slipped through the net undetected.

She thanked the majority of people across the region who continue to do the right thing despite the prolonged coronavirus lockdown.

"There are a significant amount of policing resources out there all committed to keeping our communities safe," she reminded locals.

Some local police officers have been deployed to help another part of the state with the pandemic response, as the virus crisis continues to unfold.

"We are currently assisting another district in western NSW ... that's a small amount of officers and hasn't impacted upon our local policing operation here," Superintendent Endemi said.

Tamworth has recorded two positive sewage detections recently but has not had a confirmed case of COVID-19 since April last year.

There were 1290 cases reported across the state on Monday, including 60 from the Western and Far West local health districts.
