In July, the Gunnedah track was too wet, which led to the abandonment of the meeting.

And with so many other picnic race days falling to the wayside in recent months due to both wet weather and the Covid-19 pandemic, Racing NSW elected to try their luck at Gunnedah again.

Gunnedah raced on Tuesday after the Quirindi meeting was transferred, ironically due to the state of the Quirindi Jockey Club's track.

Gunnedah then race again on Monday, and club president Kevin Edmonds said the course would be ready and raring for the picnic meeting.

"That's excellent we've picked up that picnic meeting and our track will be fine by then," Edmonds said.

"We have had a few problems with a wet track, but it's good now. If we don't get too much rain by then, we should be fine.

"We have another meeting next Monday, then we have the picnics, and everything is looking good. The extra racing is not a big deal."

The extra picnic meeting will be well-received by grassroots racing participants, with many owners and trainers still chasing valuable Picnic Racing NSW Picnic Champion Series points.

On the day there will be two open trophy handicaps - one over 1000m and one over 1600m.

There will also be 1250m and 1600m class B handicaps, a 1400m class-two trophy and a 1000m maiden plate.
