"We've kept stressing over the last few weeks that we've been a bit asleep at the start so it was good to get a good start," Swans coach Paul Kelly said.
"To kick eight goals in the first quarter, that sets you up for the day."
The Dogs were without Andrew George while captain Ben Maher was taken from the field in the second half due to a head knock.
The Swans had their own injury troubles with captain Adam Cruickshank and Cooper Thompson leaving the field in the first quarter - both with cuts on their heads.
Kelly was pleased with how the rest of the team rose to the challenge.
"To lose our captain and a really good backman - I was thinking 'what else is going to go wrong' but the boys really stepped up and I think we covered them pretty well," Kelly said.
In the other matches, Inverell beat New England 15.20 (11) to 8.8 (56) and the Tamworth Kangaroos won 25.15 (165) to 6.7 (43) over Moree-Narrabri.
