Transformers, weighing 90 tonnes each, were brought in via large flatbed trucks having been dropped off at the Port of Newcastle after being shipped from China.
They, along with the further three that were installed at Dumaresq, form a vital component of the $217 million TransGrid project by providing greater voltage stability and regulation to the network.
Project manager Danny Gittani was happy to see what he describes as a major step in the process be completed.
"We are excited to see significant progress on this project which will increase the transfer of electricity between the states when needed and provide customers with access to reliable, lowest cost electricity," he said.
"The new transformers have arrived from China and they will be installed at existing substations at Tamworth and Dumaresq to boost transfer capacity.

"Their delivery to site and installation marks a significant milestone for the project."
TransGrid is expecting the upgrade to be completed by December 2021, although that is dependent on weather given there have already been delays.
Recent floods caused difficulties in moving some of the equipment with access to substations being cut off, however that problem has now subsided.
All but 10 of the 58 steel poles that are to be erected have been installed, with their purpose being to increase the capacity of the transmission lines and enable the system to carry more power.
The company has estimated the upgrades will provide a net benefit of $170 million to electricity customers and producers.
The project, that was approved and fast-tracked last year, is expected to have created 155 jobs in the Tamworth area by its completion.
