OVERNIGHT rain drenched Tamworth on Thursday night, forcing the closure of some local roads due to flooding.

Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) confirmed Wallamore Road at Tangaratta Creek had been closed to traffic after the downpour caused water to go over the road.
Davidsons Lane was being inspected by council staff about 9:30am on Friday, and travellers in the area have been urged to drive with caution.

TRC said "heavy rain" had flooded the local roads, and with more rain on the horizon, other routes could be closed during the day.
"Please obey road closed signs, they are there for your safety," a statement from council said.
Gap Road, which joins Werris Creek Road and the Kamilaroi Highway, has also been closed and a detour is in place.
Tamworth copped a soaking last night with the official Bureau of Meteorology gauge at Tamworth airport clocking up 20mm of rain to 9am on Friday.
The city's citizen weather buffs took to social media to report their rain totals.
A North Tamworth resident reported that 55mm fell in a backyard gauge, while Calala had about 40mm, 36mm was recorded at Hillvue and more than 50mm in parts of Oxley Vale.
The wet weather is set to continue for the next couple of days.
