Police have released CCTV images of the armed men wanted for questioning after they forced their way into the Mackenzie Street home in Moree.
The two men - armed with poles - broke into the home about 3am on Sunday while an 85-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman were inside.
The woman suffered an am injury during the break-in, but the offenders fled a short time later empty-handed, police said.

New England police were alerted and setup a crime scene at the home which was examined by forensic police.
The woman was taken to Moree hospital for treatment for the arm injury, and was released a short time later.
Police are investigating and have released images of two men wanted for questioning.
The first man is described as being about 155 cm tall, while the second man is believed to be about 185cm tall.
They are described as being of a thin to medium build, and were last seen wearing black pants, black or brown jackets, with their faces covered.
