Tamworth Regional Council confirmed it had been made aware of a sinkhole - a bit larger than the size of a basketball - on the edge of Bourke Street.
Council workers had planned to fix up the sinkhole on Tuesday, before big thunderstorms thrashed the city and dumped a deluge of rain.

The downpour delayed council work, but a spokeswoman confirmed the sinkhole will be patched up in the near future.
A section on the side of Bourke Street and a laneway running off Bourke Street has been partially blocked by barricades put around the hole for safety.
The council spokeswoman confirmed the alley can still be accessed by one lane.
The Leader understands locals alerted authorities after discovering the hole during the Christmas period.
