The Tamworth trainer recently confirmed the $1.3 million race is the target for the four-year old.

"We're trying to get him in," Grills told Sky Thoroughbred Central's Gary Harley at last week's Tamworth meeting.

The 14 winning ticket holders for the October 17 race will be drawn this coming Wednesday (September 9).

"He had three weeks off, he got a little infection in his leg back in July," she said.

"But he's really well, he's on target, I'm really happy with him."

The plan is to trial at Muswellbrook on Wednesday, and then either go to Canterbury or Rosehill "and then hopefully into the Kosciuszko".

Grills, who also owns a share in the gelding, has enjoyed a good run with him.

"He's a smart horse. He's form's there," she said.

"He's only had 18 starts for six wins and eight placings."

She the distance won't be a worry pointing out that he has twice won over the 1200m including breaking the track record at Coonabarabran.

If successful it will be the long-time trainer's first crack at the world's richest race for country-trained horses.

She was approached by a slot holder about Burning Crown running in the inaugural addition in 2018 but turned it down feeling the then three-year old didn't have the "savvy" for a race like The Kosciuszko.

Last year it was in the plans but it didn't eventuate.

Speaking with Racing HQ's Dave Stanley during the recent Kosciuszko Roadshow, she said for country trainers the prizemoney is "unbelievable".

"It's a great idea and it's very exiting and to get in it would be wonderful," she said.
