The 23-year-old man was felling trees at a property in the Moonbi Ranges at about 3pm on Saturday when he was struck by the falling tree.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter initially airlifted the young man to Tamworth hospital, but later on Saturday night the chopper was called to transfer the 23-year-old to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
He was in a serious but stable condition.
The man sustained serious injuries - including fractures - to his upper body, chest and face after being struck by the falling tree.

TWO people have been airlifted to hospital by the Westpac helicopter after separate farm accidents at the weekend.
A man was struck by a falling tree at a property in the Moonbi Ranges, near Tamworth, just after 3pm on Saturday.
The 23-year-old man was felling trees when the accident occurred.
Ambulance paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service were called to the scene to treat the young man for multiple injuries.

Paramedics and the chopper's critical care team stabilised the man and he was flown by the helicopter to Tamworth hospital for further treatment.
It is understood he was in a stable condition.
The chopper was called to another emergency on Saturday evening, after reports a woman had been injured by a cow at a property south of Inverell.
It is understood the 59-year-old woman was running away from the cow at a property in Stannifer when she fell.
The woman's lower leg was badly broken in the fall, which occurred just after 6pm.
Paramedics treated the woman at the scene.
She was rushed by road ambulance to meet the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service at Inverell airport, after bad weather stopped the chopper landing at the scene.
The helicopter's critical care team helped stabilise the 59-year-old woman before she was flown to Tamworth hospital.
It is understood she was in a stable condition.
