Gunnedah and Armidale can also expect wet weather on Friday and Saturday.
Rainy days over the past three weeks have helped replenish Tamworth's water supply - Chaffey Dam had risen to 23.9 per cent full on Friday morning, according to data from WaterNSW.
Under Tamworth Regional Council's drought management plan, the trigger point for reducing water restrictions from Level 5 to Level 4 is when the dam cracks 25 per cent capacity.
About 1000ML of water - or 400 Olympic swimming pools' worth - would need to gush into the dam for that rise to occur.
