After their game against reigning premiers Tamworth FC in round one, Pendergast knew South's physicality would need to increase but he could also pinpoint his side's strengths.
One being their pace.
"I would say we're one of the quickest sides, if not the quickest," Pendergast said.

Along with holding possession, Pendergast will look to use his side's speed when they clash with Kootingal on Saturday.
He said South had the players to "open teams up" and expects the new team to continually improve.
"We've got a lot of new players coming in and it's only a matter of time before things start to click. Getting that first game of out the way is a part of that," Pendergast said.
"There's only so much you can do in training but it was starting to look pretty good [against Tamworth FC]."
South United president Mark Ross, who watched the round one match from the sidelines, agreed.
"It was basically the first time they all played together," Ross said.
"I think they'll gel a lot better this week.
"The guys did really well in their first game together. I was really proud of them."
South United and Kootingal will meet at Johnson Field on Saturday.
The Kougars also head into the round two clash following an opening loss to the season.
Kootingal went down to Moore Creek, 4-0, last week.
