TRAFFIC in the Tamworth CBD will be affected by multiple lane closures on Thursday evening as emergency works on a water main in the area are carried out.

Tamworth Regional Council said the works are centred around the Brisbane Street and Kable Avenue corner, in front of the city's Regent Cinema building.
Lane closures are expected to be in place from 7pm on Thursday and last between six and seven hours.

If you're travelling through town at that time, be aware that on Brisbane Street between Marius and Peel streets, the left turn lane to Peel Street will be closed.
On Brisbane Street between Peel Street and Kable Avenue, the centre lane and the left turn lane to Kable Avenue will be blocked off.
Commuters should be mindful the left turn lane on Peel Street between Fitzroy and Brisbane streets will also be shut during that time.
Traffic control will be in place for the duration of the works, but Tamworth council is urging people to avoid the area if possible and drive with caution.
