The inaugural "Beach Tag in the Bush" event scheduled for September 12 at AELEC has had to be postponed until next year with the venue advising organisers that due to the COVID-19 situation they could no longer commit to it.
The event was going to be the organisation's 25th celebration with a beach party to follow that night.
"We just wanted to bring something different to the country," Tamworth Oztag coordinator Pam Potts said.
In the metro and other areas where they have beaches, beach tag has been around for a few years, she said.
They had invited past and present players, and supporters, and the event was garnering a lot of interest before they had to cancel it.

"We'd put a lot of work into putting it together," she said.
That will now go towards next year's event.
The coronavirus epidemic has also put a cloud over the regular winter competitions.
Australian Oztag has imposed a shut down on all competitions until Monday May 4, which is when the local action is set to kick-off.
In what seems the increasingly likely event of that being extended, the local association has tried to put a few things in place and have devised a best/worst case scenario contingency plan.
The 'best case is a 10-week competition with two weeks of finals working on a kick-off date before May 25.
The 'worst' is they are unable to get underway before July 20, in which instance the winter competitions will be abandoned.
"We were really lucky to get our (summer) grand finals in," Potts reflected.
She knows of several associations that had to abandon their grand finals.
