REGIONAL Express [Rex] is the latest airline to take a hit amid coronavirus [covid-19] pandemic travel concerns.
It's tough news for travellers in Armidale, with the airline suspending its Armidale to Sydney service altogether.
Overall the company will reduce its capacity by 45 per cent, Rex's strategy and sales general manager Warrick Lodge said.
"The operating environment is extremely fluid and we will be monitoring the situation closely," he said.
"If the situation worsens we may be forced to further reduce capacity in the interests of maintaining essential regional air services."
The airline has foreshadowed more cuts to its services.
It has reached out to local councils that own their airports to seek a reduction in airport charges to keep operating costs to a bare minimum.
The news will put extra pressure on Tamworth's now limited services, after Qantas announced on Thursday it would cut return flights to Sydney from 29 to 12 each week.
