It would be pretty clear to most of us there is still plenty of work to be done around water in NSW.

I get that this drought is beyond anything we have experienced before, I get that we need to change the way we use water; I do.
But one of the things that took me by surprise this week, was the fact that there is no plan for what happens if/when Chaffey Dam gets to dead storage.
I guess the fact that it has never happened before is enough of an excuse; or is it?
We are one of the driest continents on the planet, and our population keeps growing. I'm not against that, don't get me wrong.
But I do think we need to be a little more forward thinking in our approach to things like water management.
To say this drought is a one off, is not the answer. Whether you subscribe to 'climate change' or not, you'd have to agree the climate is changing. It's not just semantics. And we need to be looking ahead to the next time.
While the outlook has certainly improved in just the last month, and perhaps our weather patterns are starting to look more promising, this is the one issue we can't afford to put on the backburner.
The drought is far from over. With Chaffey Dam still sitting at just over 14 per cent, we are all acutely aware of this fact. A few full dams and a bit of soil moisture - while very welcome - will not make this drought a distant memory.
So put aside your political self interests and get on with it.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday
