The club was set to host a meet and greet day for prospective players on Saturday, but was forced to call off the event due to heavy rainfall.
However, the Magpies under-18 coach Cody Tickle said the creation of the new side was progressing well.
"At this stage we have 12 guys locked in to play this year," Tickle told the Leader.
"The real job for us now is trying to secure the last six players we'd need to have a squad.
"It is looking pretty good at this stage."

Tickle said his young charges would train with the first-grade squad in the lead up to the season.
"So far, the group is made up mostly of local guys from Werris Creek and Quirindi, which is really pleasing," he said.
"Those guys who have already committed are really keen to get into it and will train once a week with our first-grade group to start with.
"From there, once we have got enough numbers, we will train on our own as a group."
The first-grade regular said it was "an exciting time" for the Magpies.
"There's a lot of people working really hard behind the scenes to try and get this under-18 team up and running," he said.
"It's really important we get this team up and running, because having a feeder team for our open-age teams is crucial for our long-term success.
"In the past, I think we have had an under-18 team and it would be great to get it going again.
"We've got some really good momentum going at the moment and hopefully we can round up the last few players we need."
Tickle said interested players were urged to contact the club via it's Facebook page.
"We are a family club, so everyone is more than welcome, regardless of their experience level or skill," he said.
