Country music is one of the top genres in Samoa and Sam Choo-Koon, or Mr Cowboy, was always drawn to prolific voices like Johnny Cash.
"I grew up in a poor family and helped out planting bananas, at the same time I was writing music," he said.
"I wanted to do something important and meaningful and make my parents proud."
When Mr Cowboy met Ray Hadley he didn't know who he was, it wasn't until a fan sent a video of him singing to the radio host that the wheels started to turn.
It's his first time in Tamworth and Mr Cowboy said it means a lot to him to be one of the first Polynesian people to perform at the country music festival.
