Plenty of people were seen running across Peel Street at lunch time while others embraced the rain with a walk.
As of 4pm, Tamworth Airport had received 8.4 millimetres of rain, Gunnedah had 7.8mm, Armidale had 6.6mm and Inverell had 4.6mm.
They paled in comparison to Moree's 45.8mm.
Meanwhile, reports came in that Kootingal have had around 40mm and Mullaley had over 63mm.
Thursday's downpour is hopefully the first of many over the coming days.
Rain is a good chance to hit Tamworth over the next four days, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
And the highest chance of the city getting rain comes in the next two days.
There is a 95 per cent chance of rain on Friday with the possibility of 10-30 millimetres.
Then on Saturday, there's a possibility we could see between 8-20mm and a 90 per cent chance we'll see at least some rain.
Temperatures will be cooler as well with Friday set to hit just 24 degrees.
