Down 14-4 with just over seven minutes to play, the Bulldogs scored two unanswered tries, Sarah Stewart darting out of dummy half and selling the dummy with only seconds remaining to get them within two points.
But they were unable to add the extras and the Robins took the points 14-12.
"It was really good to get a win up for the girls, especially coming up against Kooty next," Robins coach Adelaide Monika said.
The Roosters were later to beat Boggabri 40-12.
Beaten 36-20 by the Roos in the opening round, Monika thought it was an improved performance from her side and noted that the Bulldogs also played a lot better.
That was despite some tough conditions with a storm rolling in midway through their game.

Monika highlighted their ball control and attack in general as the biggest area of improvement for the Robins.
"We definitely controlled the ball better, and were putting the girls through holes and getting good ground from that," she said.
Against the Roos they did have a bit of a tendency to want to get rid of the ball rather than take the tackle, but on Saturday they weren't as rash with their passing - they were prepared to take that tackle.
The Bulldogs struck first through Stewart but the Robins were quick to respond and led 10-4 at half-time.
Monika said she spoke to them at the break about trying to be more strategic in the conditions. That meant trying to go straight up the middle more.
She thought Alicia Guest was great for them at fullback. Georgia Hardman was also a standout. As she did in the first round she produced a 60/70m run.
Bulldogs coach Bob Price had said going into the game he was confident they would improve on their first round outing, and was "very happy" with the group.
Running the water on Saturday, 2018 men's first grade coach John Hickey said Price's words were along the lines that: "They've improved from week one and they'll improve a lot more for the next one by learning to work for each other and he thought everyone went pretty well".
