The Year 8 Farrer student will contest the 1500m and 3000m at the NSW All Schools championships, which begin in Sydney on Friday, and with a top two finish could be winging his way to Perth in December.
Having raced at the national level before, he knows it is going to be tough to get there.
"It's a really strong field," he said.
"I'll have to run well and run pb's (personal bests)."
He goes in feeling "in pretty good shape" after taking out the 14 years 1500m at the CHS championships, although the race didn't completely go to plan.
Williams' tactic going into the race was "to go out hard and lead" and things were on track until just before the final lap.
"With 500m to go I clipped the inside of the rail and I kind of tripped and sprained my ankle," he said.
"I was limping for about 50m after that but then it kind of went away."
After slipping back to second, with 200m to go he put the foot down, and powered away to win by six seconds.
Williams also contested the 3000m. Racing up an age he was fifth overall but was the first to finish in the 14s.
School-mate student Coben Battle also ran his way onto the podium winning bronze in the 13 years 800m.
It was his first time medalling at state level, and he said standing on the podium receiving his medal was a proud and exciting moment.
"It was really good for me because I got a new pb," the Year 8 student said.
He cut almost 10 seconds off his pb, clocking 2mins 17.25secs.

Also a handy league and soccer player, it has been a busy time for Battle as his winter sporting pursuits come to an end.
The other weekend he had two grand finals back-to-back.
After starting at fullback and helping his Farrer Green side defeat Farrer Gold 38-16 in the North West Junior Rugby League under-13s grand final at Dungowan, he then had to make a mad dash back to Tamworth (he didn't even have time to collect his league medal) to suit up for the South Lightning under-14s in the Tamworth District Football grand final.
Unfortunately they couldn't make it a premiership double going down 4-nil.
