O'Brien's time of 37.1420 seconds is the fastest time ever recorded by a tin-top car around Oakburn Park, and a new class record for 4WD special vehicles over 2.0 litre.

However, O'Brien's joy was short-lived as on the very next lap his car suffered a mechanical failure, clipped the tyre barrier and rolled lightly, landing back on its wheels, but putting the car out of the event.
O'Brien escaped the incident unscathed.
Another Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, driven by Nick York, also wowed the crowd during the event, recording the second-fastest time of the day with 38.2570 seconds.
Third fastest on the day and securing a new class record for under 2.0 litre sports sedans, was Wayne Toomey in his giant killing little Mk1 Ford Escort with a time of 38.369 seconds.
Toomey's time was more than seven tenths quicker than his previous best.
In the event's other classes, Gundy Hunt claimed four outright in his Westfield clubman.
