The cafe can seat up to eight people and is situated in the sitting room in the Derby Wing. Coffee and tea are served along with a selection of homemade treats created by the residents.
"The aim is to open the café each week at a set time, to allow residents to share something a bit more special with their friends, families or other residents," said Riverview lifestyle coordinator Janine Wright.
"With the cooler weather, it can be hard to take residents out for the day, and this will be a special place to take your loved ones for a cappuccino and cake."
Ms Wright said the grand opening was a great success.
"It was a very joyful occasion with a full house during both the morning and afternoon sessions," she said.
"Staffed with volunteers in floral aprons and Richard, our manager operating the coffee machine, the scene was chaotic but fun. Poppy's Cafe will continue to be a destination for residents to entertain their friends and family on a weekly basis."
