Presented by Tamworth Regional Council councillor Charles Impy, the awards recognised the city's strongest athletes in a number of sports on Thursday.
"It's important to recognise sporting excellence, we want people of all ages to aspire to sporting achievement," Cr Impy said.
"If you do win an award and reach state or national representation that's a pat on the back for your effort.
"I took a walk along the sports hall of fame and there's such a high level of representation in our area."
Nearly 20 awards were given out, with Tamworth Regional Council Sportsman of the Year going to BMX heavyweight Jack Davis.
The current Australian 16-years boys champion won the title in April in Bunbury, Western Australia and is also Tamworth's Junior Sports Star of the Year.
The multi-disciplinary sportsman is also an avid weightlifter and has represented the state at the NSW Junior Weighligting Titles where he took out a silver medal and broke a state record.
