Will Saunders' second try of the game was the final play of the trial, and it edged the Roosters out to a six-point win, after the Terriers had fought back to trail by two points following three late tries with 10 minutes left.
The Roosters scored first when Jordan Sharpe backed up some great work from Chris Vidler and Kyle Cochrane.
A few minutes later, Ben Williams broke from dummy half, put Brayden Jerrard into the clear and he in turn found Sharpe, for a 10-nil lead.
Jessie James then scored a try in the corner for the Roosters, giving them a 14-12 lead at the end of the second period.
