Competing variously in single sculls, fours and quad, the students encountered rough water from strong winds on the Friday (January 11) but better prevailing conditions on Saturday and Sunday enabled the rowers to perform to their best.
The three boys fours team each won a race, with the First IV taking out both the men’s under-19 and under-21 final and the men’s C-grade coxed four (division one).

The best performance for the girls was a handy second place in the women’s D-grade fours – showing how well they have adapted to rowing a four.
“The girls rowed a four really well and will quite possibly race that instead of a quad in upcoming regattas,” TAS rowing coordinator and head coach Will Caldwell said.
The regatta came on the back of a four-day training camp at nearby Oxley Island, and the Head of the Clarence Regatta at Grafton in early December.
“Everything went to plan and we accomplished everything we set out to do, which is not often the case due to weather, injuries or fatigue,” Caldwell said.
Training on Malpas Dam at Guyra will resume with the new school year, before the NSW Rowing Championships on February 16, the Sydney Rowing Club Regatta on March 2, the NSW Schoolgirls Head of the River on March 16 and the AAGPS Head of the River on March 23.
