Owners Max and Coral Douglas combine the results of these scans with excellent carcase and structural traits to breed rams for the commercial producer through to top end stud flocks.
At the Tamworth Spring Lamb competition in September 2018, long time client Robert Carey, Bective, took out the Grand Champion pen of lambs with his pen of 70-76kg lambs.
Andrew Jackson, speaking on behalf of the judges, described the lambs as very long bodied, with excellent eye muscle, body and shape.
Wheatacres partnership won the middle-weight class with another quality pen of young lambs sired by Abelene Park rams.
Established in 1977, Abelene Park has also had success at the Australasian Dorset Championships, held in Bendigo, Victoria each year.
This is the largest competition of Dorset sheep in Australia.
“Abelene Park has sold the top price ram for the past three years,” said Mr Douglas.
“In 2018 AP102-17 sold for $13,000 to the Netley Park stud, SA, the same buyer that purchased the top selling ram in 2017 at $12,000.
“AP102-17 was sired by the same ram as the top seller in 2016 at $24,000.”
Once again, the stud will have a great selection of rams for the upcoming sale on February 7. Visit website www.abelenepark.com
