UPDATE: The New England Highway has been reopened following a two truck crash early on Monday morning.
Emergency services and Roads and Maritime Service crews remain at the scene, but the earlier diversions have been lifted.
People travelling through the area are urged to proceed with caution.
EARLIER: THE New England Highway is closed in both directions about 20 kilometres south of Tamworth.
Police have closed the highway near Goonoo Goonoo Station following a two-truck crash earlier this morning.
The road was closed at about 5am following the crash near Middlebrook Road.
All motorists are advised to allow more travelling time and use the Wallabadah-Quirindi Road, or the Werris Creek Road into Tamworth or leaving the city.
B-Doubles are advised to use the Kamilaroi or Oxley Highway via Gunnedah as an alternative route into Tamworth.
