It is the third time in recent months that a TJC meeting has been transferred.
Tamworth track manager Lindsay Bowne said the cool nights and lack of hot days meant the grass surface had not grown and knitted strongly. “We just haven’t got the cover on the track,” Bowne said.
“The cold nights haven’t helped and we haven’t had any real hot days, as you’d expect this time of year. It’s unfortunate and no good for the track or the club.”
He was speaking as a heavy shower, ironically, swept across the course. “This is magic,” he said of the rain, “but it’s just come a week too late.”

In August, The Northern Daily Leader reported that some $650,000 needed to be spent to improve drainage at Tamworth Racecourse after the severe drought exacerbated a drainage problem and recently led to a meeting being cancelled and another one being transferred.
To date, the TJC has received 147 nominations for the eight-race meeting.
