Dr Casey Sullivan only launched her business, My GP, 18 months ago, based within the Healthwise office on Peel Street.
Focusing on the traditional family care model where multiple generations of the same family see the same GP, Dr Sullivan and her husband Rick, who manages the surgery quickly grew her staff to four working GPs.
The new surgery, based in the Tamworth Square arcade, will have seven GPs by February next year, and the business has opened the books to new patients, hoping to open the doors in the next two weeks.

“I did own another practice, although it was more of a corporate style surgery, and was actually the opposite of how I thought practices should be run,” Dr Sullivan said.
“The three new GPs coming to My GP were all about to leave town because they were looking for a different style of practice to the ones they were in, a different way of working.
“The way to attract and keep good GPs is to create an environment where they enjoy working with each other, are part of the community and have good patient numbers.”
One of the biggest benefits of the new location will be that walk-ins will be accepted, while patients will be given a buzzer that will allow them to go anywhere within the arcade.
“Five minutes before the doctor is available the buzzer will go off,” Dr Sullivan said.
“We are going to be super family focused, open seven days a week and open until 9pm most nights – it is also an option other than the emergency department.
“People in Tamworth are not used to be able to see a GP whenever they like, or at different times. We need more patients so we can open the doors and get the practice running.”
Dr Sullivan said each GP needs a patient list of about 1200 people to be viable, but even with those ratios there is still a huge patient pool in Tamworth.
