The chance at glory awaits the members of the Kootingal Public School girls softball team. After claiming the regional championships recently, the team is now just two wins away from being crowned the best primary school softball team in the state.

Their next assignment comes on December 6 when they will compete in the semi-finals of the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association softball competition.

Kootingal Public School principal Cara Cracknall said “the entire community was supporting the girls”.
“To get to this stage is just terrific,” Cracknall said.
“We haven’t had too many teams progress this far – one soccer team did but that was many years ago.
“I think it’s fair to say we are all pretty proud of the girls and hope they do well.”
The team will be lead by Briana-Marie Goman, who will take on the side’s pitching duties.
“We are quite lucky in that most of the girls play softball outside of school,” Cracknall said.
“Briana in particular has proven to be a bit of a rising star, she is in the region’s high school representative team and is only finishing Year 6 this year.
“Importantly, all of the girls enjoy playing together and representing their school, and to me that is just great to see.”
In qualifying for the semi-finals, the team took all before them clocking up four wins en route to the regional championships.
“Our region is probably the biggest in the state, so it’s quite special that we were able to take the North West and Western regional titles,” Cracknall said.
“The team’s coach Jill Cook has down a terrific job with the girls and really has them enjoying the sport.
“Our Year 6 girls, who make up the majority of the team, have been with Jill virtually since she arrived and took over the role.
“It’s great they have gone through with Jill and hopefully they can achieve a great result on December 6.”
