Well that’s another week done and dusted. Before you know it, it will be Christmas. For the mums and dads out there, just 10 weeks to go.

What a week it was too, with our man Barnaby back in the spotlight. He’s not counting, but should they offer him a return to the top job, he would consider it. What happens next is anybody’s guess.
Closer to home, on the council front, there are moves afoot to dismantle ties with BAE out at the airport. Does that clear the way for a Qantas pilot training facility? We hope to know more about that before the end of the year.
It’s been a week of change for us too.
When they say “the more things change, the more they stay the same” I reckon they were talking about The Northern Daily Leader this week.
On Tuesday The NDL introduced subscriptions for our online content. It means anyone who wants to read more than just the headlines needs to sign up.
If you are reading this – you already have - and that means you understand the importance of local news, and don’t take the fact that we have journalists working hard in our community, for granted. You understand that it costs to produce the articles you read.
There is a cost involved in sending a reporter to a council meeting on a Tuesday night, or to the courthouse on a Wednesday, or to the football on a Saturday.
It’s not a new concept either. For over one hundred years this newspaper has had a cover price. Introducing subscriptions for website access is a natural and necessary evolution for The Northern Daily Leader in a digital world, and allows our audiences to choose how they will support us.
I wanted to say thank you also for the feedback. It has been truly humbling to see how important The NDL is to people’s lives and how deeply people care about the journalism that keeps Tamworth connected.
So back to where it all began, “the more things change, the more they stay the same”. Despite the changes this week, we remain fiercely determined to tell great stories about the wonderful people in our community and are glad you are along for the ride.

Editor, The Northern Daily Leader
