Thirteen young Tamworth basketballers were among almost 200 from across the state honing their skills over the long weekend at the John Davidson 2018 NSW Country Basketball Under-12 Jamboree.
Maggie Highlands, Bella McCarthy, Emma Rumble, Katie Sheppard, Georgie Williams, Emily Wood, Sophie McMullen, Jacob Henderson, Reid Humble, Zachary Lasker, Sam Peeters, Charlie Whale and Mason Heywood were selected to attend the four day camp, which wrapped up at the Tamworth Sports Dome on Tuesday.
Neil Gaffney and Kitty Humble were also selected to be involved as coaches, Carol Rickard as a referee coach and Caleb McIlveen and Ethan Lee as referees.
It’s the third year the camp has been held in Tamworth.
The ideal behind the Jamboree is ‘to provide junior counter basketballers with an enjoyable basketball experience that includes more than just direct head to head competition’.
As well as playing games the 90 selected each boys and girls also participate in coaching clinics and social activities.
The players are split into different teams with care taken not to put them with other players from their local association, and all boarded out at Farrer.
“It gives them a taste of going to camps,” Tamworth Basketball Association administrator Peter McDonald said.
