DAMIEN Allen has a week to prepare the Kootingal Roosters for a knockout final against Dungowan Cowgirls.
It will be a testing time for him and his hens who were blasted off Kootingal Oval by unbeaten North Tamworth 45-nil in Sunday’s major preliminary final.
The Roosters were lucky to have the “second bite” and remain alive to tackle the Cowgirls in this Saturday’s final while the Bears go straight into Sunday week’s grand final at Jack Woolaston Oval.
Allen said the Roosters, a new look side fashioned together at the start of the season, had it tough enough as it was playing the unbeaten Bears.
But they went in with a bad attitude, he said.
“North Tamworth are a good side,” Allen said.
“We just didn’t turn up with the right attitude, didn’t turn up at all today.”
The only positive from the game is “we’re still alive”.
“Got to play Luke and his Cowgirls now,” he laughed of Dungowan coach Luke Taylor and his side who ended Barraba’s season with a 37-4 win in Saturday’s minor preliminary final at Gunnedah.
“That’s going to be a hard game too, they (Kooty) will have bring their game this Saturday.”
Meanwhile, Boggabri scored a stunning kick and chase try in the final 15 seconds of its Tier 2 major preliminary final against Werris Creek to grab a 14-11 victory at Kootingal and win berth in Sunday week’s decider.
Werris Creek now play South West Robins in this Saturday’s Tier 2 final.
