The 53-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared via video link in Inverell Local Court on Thursday.
DPP solicitor Luke Boesnisch formally withdrew 14 charges against the accused.
Magistrate Roger Prowse committed the man for trial on 28 charges including committing an act of indecency with a victim under 10, aggravated indecent assault with a victim under the age of 16, aggravated indecent assault of a victim under the authority of offender, sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10 attempted sexual intercourse with a person under 10, aggravated sexual intercourse with a person over 10 and under 14 years.

He will face an arraignment in August in Armidale District Court where he will formally enter pleas.
The man made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
He was first charged by detectives from the Tamworth-based Child Abuse Squad in June 2017.
