Bridge Road Brewers’ flagship ale was awarded a Gold Medal recently in the 2018 Australian International Beer Awards, which is the largest annual competition in the world for draught and packaged beers.
There were 2178 beer entries from 359 exhibitors this year.
Bridge Road Brewers scored six medals overall in the awards.
Bridge Road Brewers founder and owner Ben Kraus welcomed another strong showing in Melbourne.
“I’m again impressed that our beers continue to stand up against increased competition,” he said.
“The awards are really a testament to the passion and dedication of our team in Beechworth.
“Regionally we have also seen a strong uptake of locally brewed beer.
“Our region is well known for its produce, of which craft beer is now a recognised part.
“The enthusiasm of visitors to Good Beer Week in Melbourne last week was awesome.
“Everywhere you turn there’s another craft beer event.”
Bridge Road Brewers’ other medals in this year’s awards were three silver medals for their Bling IPA, Robust Porter and Chevalier Saison and two bronze medals for Enigma Pilsner and The Harvest.
Bright Brewery claimed four medals including silver for Hellfire Amber Ale and Fainters Dubbel and bronze for Blowhard Pale Ale and Staircase Porter.
There was no gold awarded in the English Special Bitter class, meaning silver was a best-in-class result for the Hellfire Amber Ale.
Mr Kraus said the number of High Country beers in some of Melbourne’s best known bars, restaurants and bottle shops continued to grow.
“Locally the trend of beer tourism continues to expand,” Mr Kraus said.
Ahead of Bridge Road Brewers’ 13th birthday on June 8, Mr Kraus said their focus on local production and growth had paid off in the international awards during the past 12 years.
“We are passionate about many things, including our home town and craft beer, we all hold similar values of what craft beer means to us and are stoked to get this kind of recognition on an international stage,” he said.
Bridge Road Brewers launched its Ales for Trails campaign, an initiative that supports mountain bike clubs nationwide.
