One of the folk music world’s greatest living singer-songwriters, Eric Bogle, will perform at the Capitol Theatre at 7.30pm on Wednesday, May 30.
Bogle is probably best known for his song The Band Played Waltzing Matilda, which confirmed its iconic status by appearing as a question in the Australian version of Trivial Pursuit.
But he is far from being a one-hit wonder. Some of his other songs – No Man's Land (The Green Fields of France), Leaving Nancy, Now I'm Easy, Shelter, My Youngest Son Came Home Today and If Wishes were Fishes are now beginning to rival Matilda in the icon stakes.
After taking a break from touring, Eric has decided that the lure of getting out into theatres and clubs has been too strong, so he is heading out in May/June for a run-of-shows, kicking off in Tamworth on May 30 and winding up in Warrnambool on June 16.
Joining Eric and the band is Ami Williamson, described by the Sydney Morning Herald as “Forceful, funny, powerful and poetic, Ami Williamson is an alt-folk singer/songwriter like no other! I cried, I laughed- then both at the same time – one woman show at its best”.
With 17 studio albums and eight live collections to his credit and appearances at almost all of the major folk and country music festivals across Australia and overseas, Eric is regarded as one of the folk music world’s greatest living singer-songwriters. A recipient of an Order of Australia Medal for services to the entertainment industry, Eric was also awarded a United Nations Peace Medal for his efforts, through music, to promote peace and racial harmony.
His songs have been recorded by artists as varied as Joan Baez, Mary Black, Donovan, Slim Dusty, John Williamson, The Dubliners, Peter Paul and Mary, Billy Bragg, The Pogues and The Dropkick Murphys.
Tamworth Musical Society’s latest production, Funny Girl only has three performances remaining (evening and matinee performances) finishing up on May 26.
This hilarious and moving production tells the story of real life star, Fanny Brice. Her career spanned from comedienne to Vaudeville star. In The Ziegfeld Follies, in Hollywood films and on the radio, Fanny Brice was one of the most celebrated entertainers of her time.
This show is the story of her life, career and love, Nick Arnstein. Musical numbers include I’m the Greatest Star, I Want to Be Seen with You Tonight, Don’t Rain On My Parade, People, The Music That Makes Me Dance, Who Are You Now? and You Are Woman, I Am Man. This beautiful show has been receiving rave reviews.
Enjoy Nancye Hayes and Todd McKenney in Bosom Buddies at Capitol Theatre on either May 28 at 7.30pm or May 29 for a special matinee performance. In this new show, they reflect on their stage careers and their lives in showbiz.
They sing, they dance, they reminisce - about the lows as well as the highs. They tell backstage stories never before told and they show video footage never before seen. As part of each performance, the audience is invited to ask Nancye and Todd the questions they’ve always wanted to ask.
