Skilton suspects that the 22-point drubbing the Thunderbolts gave the Hawkes at the Hawkesbury and the long trip to Tamworth were behind the forfeit.
He said: “They may not have had the numbers or the impetus to travel the six hours to come and ostensibly lose by 30 again.”
He added: “We have to travel. It’s obviously preferable for other teams to travel.
“[If they don’t] it means we’re missing out on an opportunity to promote our sponsors and get a crowd in the door and provide some entertainment for the local community.
“It’s frustrating but that’s how it goes, unfortunately.”
The third-placed Thunderbolts play the fourth-placed Central Coast Crusaders away on Saturday.
Tamworth beat them 58-51 at the Dome in round three, but on Saturday the home side will field three key players who didn’t take part in that match –Skilton, Scott McGann and Rashanti Harris. It will be McGann’s first game back following at stint playing college ball in the US.
