Tamworth’s Cr Murray said the government were happy to prop-up but places like Armidale but didn’t have the same energy for Tamworth.
But Armidale’s own Cr Murray said the two council’s should be working together to ensure a stronger region.
“There are so many opportunities between the two areas. It’s not us and them because we are different from Tamworth,” Cr Murray said. “Once we form the New England Joint Organisation, we can work with the Namoi Joint Organisation.”
Armidale recently welcomed the NSW TAFE’s Digital headquarters and the impending relocation of the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority.
“There’s a strong contingent in Armidale for promoting the area and why its attractive to relocate here which is now paying dividends,” Cr Murray said.
Cr Murray said the two city should focus on the complementing each other to boost the economy and tourism in the region. “We [Tamworth and Armidale] need to focus on the strengths and promote,” Cr Murray said.
“We are always available to work on the bigger picture. Tamworth has bigger developments and services, there’s more potential for us.
“If we all work together, our advocacy role with the government will be so much stronger. We need to work together so we can have a stronger voice.”
