However, Tamworth coach John Ireland said the Thunderbolts needed to improve their communication ahead of the side’s third-round clash against the Central Coast Crusaders at Tamworth on Saturday.
Tamworth and table-toppers the St George Saints are the only undefeated teams after two rounds of the Division 1 Waratah League.
Against a Dolphins side who arrived in Tamworth with only seven players, the Thunderbolts were never headed – establishing a 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and increasing the margin at each subsequent quarter.
Justin Leehy and Matt Monckton top-scored with 14, while Jayden Pryer and Roman Jurd had 13 and 12 points respectively.
Ireland said: “It was a scrappy sort of a game. Port were obviously under-strength with only seven players, and for a lot of those players it was probably their first taste of Division 1 men’s basketball.
“But, look, it was a pretty solid team effort. To hold any team defensively to 43 points is a pretty good effort.”
