This photo taken in 1997 in Tamworth is a reunion of members and officials of the North and North West representative cricket side who played against England’s MCC Test Team captained by Ted Dexter at Tamworth's No.1 Oval in 1963.
A noted absentee from the photo is former Test Batsman and part time bowler Doug Walters, now in his 72nd year. His first test for Australia was against England in 1965.
The touring English team included an impressive batting line up, featuring Ken Barrington, Colin Cowdrey, Tom Graveney and Dexter.
Fred Trueman, Brian Statham, Ray Illingworth and Fred Titmus were among the touring team’s bowlers.
I thought this would be of interest to current and retired cricketers, supporters, and followers throughout Tamworth and the North and North West.
Now in my 82nd year I am a proud life member of North Tamworth Cricket Club and my son Peter was also a member. We are both looking forward to the club's 90-year celebrations at the Locomotive Hotel this Saturday evening.
