And it’s the giant hurdle Narrabri need to negotiate to win Sunday’s first-grade grand final against North Tamworth at Jack Woolaston Oval – or Bear Park as it is also known.
In the past four seasons Norths have lost once at home, a 30-28 defeat to West Lions in round three in 2015.
Since then Norths have won 27 consecutive home games, including two grand finals to go with their 2014 premiership.
“Absolutely,” Norths coach Brad McManus said when asked if the side regards Bear Park as a fortress as they search for four straight premierships.
“You don’t want to give up an easy win on your home turf.
“That’s the way we treat it.
“That’s the way we play every time we play there.
“It’s sort of like our own backyard.
“We love it that much there.
“That’s why we turn it on whenever anyone comes there.”
Norths have named an unchanged side to the one who defeated Gunnedah 40-4 in the major semi-final at Bear Park.
McManus said the return to the side of veteran back-rower Nic Dobson was a “massive” boost given the Bears’ rookie front-row.
Dobson resumed playing in the major semi-final after being sidelined since round six with a broken wrist.
“He tidies the middle up,” McManus said.
“He just gets everyone going.
“I’m pretty excited to have him back in the middle.”
