The walk, led by mayor Col Murray and Tamworth Local Aboriginal Lands Council chair Harry Cutmore, marks two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey – the 1967 Referendum and the historic Mabo decision.
“In 2004, thousands of Australians joined Michael Long in ‘The Long Walk’ from Melbourne to Canberra in a show of support for an equitable and inclusive Australia, and we thought it was a great idea for our community also,” TRC cultural development officer Andrea Bruno said.
The walk ends at Bicentennial Park for a ceremony and free lunch. Register at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/thelongwalk or call 6767 5205.
