Final score was 57-17 to Inverell. One point shared among players, three points to Tom Rose, players’ player Ryan Withers. It’s a home game this weekend and we hope a few boys show up to make a full side.
In first grade, Walcha capitalised on an early penalty kick converted by Simon Newton, and when Inverell shortly after had the same opportunity, it set the scene for what became a very high penalty count game.
Despite many decisions not going the Rams way, the Walcha boys did not get frustrated and kept wearing the highlanders down. The backline again proved its strength in this competition with Patrick Keen scoring early.
What followed was some solid defensive work by Walcha, including a few stolen lineouts by Sione Kamoto and Nat Brazel and huge hits by Pete Young, Ross Fletcher and the rest of the boys.
In the second half, Walcha saw tries by Pete Young, Dom Bower, Will Fletcher and Simon Newton. Inverell secured their first try in the final few minutes. Final score was 34-10 to Walcha. One point to Ross Fletcher and Tom Hoy, two points to Henry King, points and players player to Pete Young.
This weekend we take on Gunnedah at home.
